Probe into death of ex-mayor changed to murder

Posted: Tue 5:54 PM, Feb 19, 2013

EVARTS, Ky. (AP) - Preliminary autopsy results indicate the former mayor of an Appalachian town whose body was found inside his burned home died of a single gunshot wound.

Kentucky State Police say the investigation into the death of 59-year-old Ronnie King of Evarts has been changed to murder. No one has been arrested in the case.

Police had earlier said the fire was suspicious and foul play was suspected. King's body was found after the fire was extinguished Monday at his home in Evarts, a Harlan County town close to the Virginia border.

King served the city of Evarts in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a city councilman and as mayor.
