Program aims to end feral cat problem in Jessamine County

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - One community says it is tired of wild cats and we're not talking about the Big Blue.

Officials in Jessamine County say they are dealing with a stray cat problem.

Charlotte Lamb estimates she feeds some 25 to 30 cats that come in to her yard. Some argue feeding the felines causes more to come in.

"If we weren't trapping and fixing them, there would be just be more," Lamb says. "I just can't see them hungry."

The high cat population is why Jessamine County has started a program called Trap, Neuter and Return. The program traps feral cats in a safe and humane way. The cats are then taken to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and eventually returned to their colonies. The goal is to control the county's high stray population.

The program is scheduled to resume again on March 11.
