Progress against big blaze

GLENDORA, Calif. (AP) - Firefighters battling a wildfire east of Los Angeles have gotten a break, Santa Ana winds have eased.

The blaze has scorched 1,700 acres of brush in the San Gabriel Mountains, destroyed five homes and forced about 3,700 people to evacuate.

It's 30 percent contained, but forecasters warn high winds are a threat through Friday evening.
