Project to run water lines to eastern Kentucky homes

JACKSON, Ky. (AP) - A state agency has awarded contracts to companies to run tap water lines to 100 homes in a southeastern Kentucky county.

The Department for Natural Resources Division of Abandoned Mine Lands awarded the contracts for the $3 million water project in Breathitt County.

Natural Resources Commissioner Steve Hohmann says the Frozen Creek Phase 1 project will install nearly 14 miles of water main lines, a pump station and water meters at 100 homes.

The agency found that past mining in the area has polluted the ground water in parts of the Frozen Creek area. The mining occurred before 1982.

Contract awards went to BRC Group LLC of London, Nesbitt Engineering of Lexington and American Structures Inc. in Wisconsin.
