Public answering animal shelter's call for help

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A shelter, overrun with everything from dogs to alpacas, continues to look to the public for help. The animals were found at a home in Franklin County.

Sheriff's deputies arrested William and Sandra Coy for animal cruelty.
The dogs, birds, alpacas, chickens and pigs all were turned over to the Franklin County Humane Society.

"We're caring for those and we are also responsible for the other ones that are still left on the property," said Teresa Masters with the Franklin County Humane Society.

They've had dozens of people drop off supplies, and even offer to foster animals to help make room in the shelter.

"One thing is so disheartening, and then you see all the people that show up to help adopt," said Masters. "We'll need donations for medical needs, veterinary needs. We'll need dog food. There is ours (animals) that we always feed, plus the influx of over 20 other large breed dogs."

They also could use volunteers.

"If anybody has any time, we'll take a little bit of it. You can go on Facebook. Social media is a great way to spread the word that we need help."
