Meeting Thursday night to discuss proposed New Circle Road expansion
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A meeting is being held at Leestown Middle School Thursday evening at 5:00 to discuss the states proposal to expand parts of New Circle road and add another double-crossover diamond.
The 80 million dollar proposed project includes changing New Circle road from 4 to 6 lanes between the Georgetown Road and the Versailles Road exit. Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet say this is an area of town that has had tremendous growth in recent years. They say the change is desperately needed.
The project also includes the cities second double-crossover diamond on the circle at Leestown Road. Just this past fall, the first crossover diamond was opened off of Harrodsburg Road.
We're told the Harrodsburg double-crossover diamond has been successful in helping reduce traffic in a once very congested part of town. They are hoping for similar results if this proposal is approved.
If approved the construction of the widening of New Circle would not start until the fall of 2013.
The meeting will be held at Leestown Middle School at 5:00 PM.
The public is encouraged to attend to ask questions or to hear what leaders are proposing.
