Public meeting on latest CentrePointe concept design

On Thursday, people had a chance to voice their opinion over the latest proposal for the CentrePointe project.

It all came as a new concept design was unveiled, featuring a 30-story building where a vacant lot is now in downtown Lexington.

A Chicago architect released drawings of the plan, which in addition to the skyscraper, would include a an eight-story office building on the lot.

The 30-story building would include condos, apartments, a hotel and penthouses.

"We've had multiple renderings," Woodford Webb of the Webb Companies said. "The first rendering was about 35-40 stories, and then we scaled it down a little bit and a few alterations have occurred since then."

Woodford Webb helped hire the architect who came up with the latest design, Jeanne Gang.

"Jeanne picked several designs, but this is the design she really feels works best for this block," Webb said.

Fourteen buildings were torn down to make way for the original CentrePointe project in 2008, but it never got off the ground because of financing problems.

A public meeting was held on this latest design Thursday afternoon at the Kentucky Theatre. The meeting showcased more pictures of the new design and a model of the concept.
