Pulaski County Man Charged In Shooting

A man who fled on foot after shooting a Nancy man in Pulaski County has been caught.

On Saturday morning just after midnight, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a shooting incident in the Oil Center area of Pulaski County. Police say upon arrival, units learned that two men had gotten into an argument at a campsite on the banks of Fishing Creek in the Oil Center area. During the argument, one of the men produced a handgun and fired at the other, striking him at least one time in the chest.

The shooter has been identified as Carl "Ricky" Smittle Jr, 50, 87 Hansford Street Eubank, KY. After the shooting, Smittle fled the area on foot. The Sheriff's Department K-9 unit was called to the scene the track of the suspect.

The victim has been identified as Eric Scott Pitman, 34, 11215 West Highway 80 Nancy, KY. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner's Office. Pitman's body will be transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

According to Police, Smittle was found around seven this morning at a house at 492 Stringtown Road. He is currently at Pulaski County Detention Center.

The circumstances leading up to the argument and shooting remain under investigation by the Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Division. Further details will be
