RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - There were some heavy hearts at the race Saturday morning, but even as people were wiping away tears they had smiles on their faces. Three thousand four hundred runners were registered, including 600 virtual runners participating across the globe. They all came out to support Sarah Hart and the people who loved her.
"I want to take a moment to thank everyone for their love and the outpouring of that love," said Sarah's father Wendell Roberts.
The Run with All Your Hart race was organized by some of Sarah's closest friends and running partners. As word of the event spread businesses from across the county offered their support.
"I didn't have to solicit anyone, they would just call and say 'Hey Stephanie, here's what we want to do,'" said Stephanie Foley who ran with Sarah and helped organize the event.
The race honored the pregnant mother who was murdered in June. Each of the four miles represented one of her children, the last for her unborn son, Alexander.
"We're celebrating her life, because we don't want to think about the tragedy that occurred, and it's just awesome that all these people cared," said Elizabeth Roberts, Sarah's sister.
Organizers say the plan is for this to be a yearly event with the money going to scholarships in Sarah's name. So far they've raised over $70,000.
