LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The overnight rain caused major problems on Kentucky roadways on Wednesday morning.
Lexington Police responded to several crashes and they're urging drivers to be careful if they're heading out.
Many people have travel plans and say they're getting on the road early to avoid the bad weather.
"We're going to Atlanta and we heard that weather was coming in, so we decided to get ahead of it," says Michelle Amos. "We thought we should leave, so we left Indiana last night at about 9:30."
Amos says conditions got worse as they got closer to Lexington.
"It started to rain and there was a great deal of wind coming in," Amos says.
Lexington Police urge drivers to be careful the next few days and play it safe. "What we'd like is for drivers to stay off the roads obviously if they don't need to be out during heavy ice or heavy snow," explains Lt. Raymond Roller.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says its keeping a close eye on the roads. They haven't started to salting the roads yet because of the rain, but say they're ready to go when temperatures drop and conditions worsen.
