Thief caught on tape stealing donation jar for toy drive

Updated: Thu 8:30 PM, Dec 15, 2011

They are calling him the Taylor County Grinch. "I have never seen anyone steal a charity jar in this town, ever" explains Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy William Rice. "When I saw the video I was in shock -- who does that?"

The charity jar, which was at the Gulf gas station in Campbellsville, had roughly $75 in it when it was stolen. "When we got the call I was so disappointed," explains Toys for Kids organizer Lisa Harris. "The gas station owners went out of their way to try and help raise money for this good cause and someone goes in and take advantage of them. If they truly needed help there are a lot of services in Taylor County that would have helped them out."

The store owners of the gas station tell us that a Good Samaritan heard about the jar being stolen and donated all the money lost. "It truly goes to show that there are nice people out there ... Santa truly does exist," Harris said.

If you know who stole the money or recognize the man in the surveillance video you're asked to please call the Taylor County Sheriff's Office.
