LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Despite a dismal rebounding effort, Kentucky held on to beat Maryland Friday night to start the season. John Calipari says his young Cats will be up against a better team Tuesday night in Atlanta, Duke.

Maryland pulled down 54 rebounds in the game, 28 on the offensive glass. Kentucky finished with 38 rebounds, 13 on the offensive boards. Monday, John Calipari explained how he has not had time to work on rebounding as much as he would like and he said he was not upset. "If we haven't worked on it I cannot be upset and we hadn't. I just thorught we were 7-foot, 6-11, 6-10, 6-9, we'll rebound. No."

7-footer Willie Cauley-Stein said there is an emphasis on rebounding since returning from New York. "We have like three new rebounding drills at practice now, and before we didn't do, we hardly, like throw it off the backboard and go snatch it out of the air five times."

The freshman from Olathe, Kansas said he'd be hitting the glass against Duke. "Go get boards, that's my whole game plan, I don't want to do anything else but get boards. Especially after having to do all the running we had to do, I'm not trying to not get boards any more.
Like that's my sole purpose, is to try to go get boards."
