The heat did not stop people from coming out to annual Red, White and Boom event at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

"We are so pleased with the turn out today! At 9:00 AM we had already sold more tickets than we did all last year," explains Lexington Legends President Andy Shea. "I think the heat was bothersome in the beginning, it definitely impacted some of our Legends games, but I think people are use to it now. I think they'd much rather be outside enjoying the weather then stuck inside at home."

We're told more than 10,000 people attended the event. Organizers set up multiple cooling booths, water stations, and have discounted water available to the public to help everyone beat the heat. "We've got a lot of water fountains that people can use, we even have the sprinklers on for the kids. We have people walking around patrolling the area to make sure people aren't overcome by heat, and if they are, to make sure they get the proper treatment they need."

A handful of attendees have been treated for heat exhaustion, but only one was taken to the hospital.
