Red Flag Warning in effect for Eastern Kentucky

EASTERN Ky. (WKYT) - Firefighters are on standby now that a red flag warning is in effect for Eastern Kentucky, which means no outdoor burning.

Officials with the Kentucky Division of Forestry say the strong winds, the sun and the low-relative humidity make for a higher danger of wildfires.

Officials say those in Eastern Kentucky counties need to wait to do any outdoor burning until conditions are calmer. The warning will remain in effect until after dark Wednesday night.

Leah Macswords, Dir. of the Ky. Division of Forestry, warns that those burning risk being penalized by authorities and the Division of Forestry.

Spring Wildfire Season begins on February 15th and runs through April 30th. It is illegal during this time to burn outdoors between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM.
