RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Their remains were discovered in a field in the spring and this week the families of Sonsaray Warford and Charles Walker found out they will finally be able to bury their loved ones.

"Big relief we've been waiting for this for a long time," said Sonsoray's father, Greg Todd.

Todd says the courts decision to release his daughter's remains after waiting seven long months is providing his family with some comfort.

"We're just thankful more than anything right now, it's time," he said.

Walker's Aunt Amy Burbridge said waiting so long to properly bury her loved one has been painful.

"It's been rough. We've been doing the best that we know how, but we need this for closure," she explained.

The Richmond couple went missing in June 2010. Authorities found their bodies in a grave in Madison County in late March of this year.

Shortly thereafter, police arrested Matthew Denholm, 27, and his friend, Daniel Keene, 26. They were charged in the kidnappings and deaths of Sonsaray Warford, 30, and her boyfriend, Charles Walker, 30. Denholm and Keene have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, kidnapping and tampering with physical evidence.

Walker allegedly was targeted in a contract killing by a Richmond drug dealer because Walker had stolen $180,000 from the man, according to court papers. Richmond Police have said Warford was not a target but died because she was with Walker at the time.

Denholm & Keen are set to go on trial back-to-back beginning next July.

"We are going to stick together and fight until the end because Justice has to be done," Todd said.

"It's going to be rough but with God's grace, we'll make it through this," said Burbridge.

The families have agreed to schedule the funerals so they don't conflict with one another. That way loved ones can attend both services. Sonsaray's services will likely be held next weekend, and Charles' funeral will take place the following weekend.
