Repaving project on US-60 begins

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Highway Department officials announced on Monday that construction on US 60/Versailles Road has begun.

The project, which will span from New Circle to the Bluegrass Parkway, will focus on repaving the roadways.

"This project will enhance the ride of the pavement, increase the life of the road, and improve safety for the traveling public," explains Natasha Lacy, with the Kentucky Highway Department. "We are urging the public to be patient with us while we complete this project."

Construction work will begin:

• Monday, February 18 – 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The location of the work on US 60 for Monday will be between KY 4 (New Circle Road) and Rice Road in Fayette County. The westbound right (fast) lane will be closed. Two lanes will remain open in each direction.

Local business owners in the area say they are looking at the positive effects of this project. "This definitely needs to be done," explains Doughdaddy's Donut owner, Will Parks, "anyone who drives on US 60 knows the roads are horrible. On a positive note, this will allow for more customers in our area and potential business."

While the project is on going officials are urging drivers to use alternative routes, on Interstate 64 and US 421. Also, if the weather holds up and there aren't any delays, the project could possibly be done in October, instead of December like originally planned.
