LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Republicans defeated two Democratic
Senate incumbents and nearly cut the Democrat's House majority in
half in Tuesday's election.
The GOP also claimed the 34th District seat held by retiring
Senate Minority Leader Ed Worley of Richmond. Republican Jared
Carpenter easily defeated Democrat Lee Murphy.
Longtime Democratic Sen. David Boswell of Owensboro lost to
Republican Joe Bowen in western Kentucky's 8th District, a seat
Boswell has held since 1991. And Mike Wilson, a Christian radio
executive, beat Democratic incumbent Mike Reynolds in the 32nd
Senate District, which includes Butler and Warren counties.
The Republicans now hold a 22-15 advantage in the Senate, along
with one independent.
In the state House, Republicans claimed seven seats, defeating
five Democrat incumbents and picking up two open seats held by
retiring Democrats. The GOP gains shrunk the Democrat's House
majority to 58-42.
