Rescued horses recovering in Kentucky

CARLISLE, Ky, (WKYT) - Investigators say they were found in terrible conditions. Now, nearly two dozen Arabian horses are getting help in Kentucky.

The animals have been moved from the Kentucky-Tennessee line to Christopher Takacs' farm in Carlisle.

He says they were in pretty bad shape when he got them.

"The photographs of the horses at pickup are just horrific," Takacs says. "They had to have been without good forage for five, six, seven months to get to the size and condition they were in."

He tells WKYT getting them back to good health is a process.

"I don't want them to stand and gorge themselves 24/7 because they'll jam their digestive tracks," Takacs says. "The idea here is to get them healthy, get the to a point where we know everything is going alright."

The animals are now up to four feedings, which means they aren't far from being adopted.

Takacs says two of the rescued horses have already been adopted to a farm in Virginia.
