RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - We're learning new details about the case against a teenager charged with murder for the death of her baby sister.
17-year-old Jessica Marcum made her first court appearance Thursday in Madison County. She's being charged as an adult. Investigators say she killed her nine-month-old sister back in June.
In court Thursday, Marcum pleaded not guilty.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Jennifer Smith told WKYT the charge was because Marcum smothered her baby sister. She was the sole caretaker when authorities found baby Bella Rose.
Because Marcum is 17, even though she's being tried as an adult, Kentucky State Police won't release any information on this case.
Marcum's bond is set at $100,000, but her attorneys are working to get that lowered.
