Richmond woman accused of taking money from employer

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - A Richmond woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars, from the business where she worked, over almost a two year span.

Earlier this month, the owners of Posh Tots on Meridian Way reported that they had discovered some suspicious activity while examining sales reports. After investigating, police say the owners found that an employee at the clothing store, Tanya Horn, had stolen more than $10,000 in cash from the business since 2012.

The owners also reported to police that more than two-thousand dollars worth of clothing had been taken from the business during that same time period.

Police say the business owners didn't notice anything was taken at first, but over time, Horn started stealing larger amounts and that's when they noticed. This is something police say happens often and why business owners should keep a close eye.

"We see employee thefts a lot, usually not of this magnitude," says Asst. Chief Bob Mott, Richmond Police. "Most of them catch it beforehand. But it's not uncommon that over a period of time it adds up to significant amounts like this one."

Horn is now charged with theft by unlawful taking. Police say she could face five to ten years in prison if convicted.
