They are indeed a perfect match.

"I know we're compatable, Joan Beck explained while laughingly looking at her husband. She continued, "I didn't know we were genetically!"

Beck's husband of 17 years, Norbert "Nubs" Wagner was diagnosed with a rare genetic form of kidney disease two years ago. The disease progressed so quickly, the fun-loving couple now lives life according to his dialysis schedule. That was until they realized Joan could give Nubs the gift of life.

"I knew we were the same blood type," she said. "So that was the first step. Whether or not we'd be a tissue match, I thought it was a long shot. So, when I found out we were compatable, it was unbelieveable."

Wagner continued "Flabergasted it worked out this way; that she cares enough about me to give me a kidney."

But the couple--whose first date was a dance lesson-- says they can't just waltz in for surgery. Right now, they're waiting to see if they're approved by the University of Cincinatti.

"The committee will consider our case tomorrow," Beck explained.

In addition to waiting for a phone call from UC tomorrow, the couple also looking forward to an event at St. Thomas Lutheran in Richmond tommorow night.

Help Hope Life, a tax-exempt organization, is sponsoring the event. It will include food provided by Nifty Kneedlers and music by The White Station Singers. The event will go from 7-9 p.m. It's an effort to help off-set the 10-thousand dollars in expenses after the surgery. The cost of admission is free, but donations are encouraged.

"The outpouring of help from friends and relatives and perfect strangers is amazing," Wagner said. "It's hard to express in words how much gratitude I feel towards all of them."
