NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) - Work on the first step of a project to link six northern Kentucky cities along the Ohio River is expected to begin this spring.
The Kentucky Enquirer reports it will be a small but crucial part of the Riverfront Commons project, an planned 11 ½-mile walking and cycling path that links Fort Thomas, Dayton, Bellevue, Newport, Covington and Ludlow.
The plan for the initial phase calls for ramps, steps and a bridge that extends east from the Purple People Bridge across the Newport Port of Entry.
Jack Moreland, president of Southbank Partners, the region's nonprofit riverfront economic development agency, says the first phase of the project will provide great views of downtown Cincinnati as well as a new way for people to experience entertainment venues in Newport.
