LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A rough ride for many drivers on Interstate 75 Monday when some road work on the Clays Ferry Bridge backed up traffic for miles.
Traffic was backed up in the Southbound lanes of I-75 Monday afternoon for miles. At one point, some reports said traffic was at a near standstill for nearly 6 miles.
Only one lane was open at the bridge.
State department of highways leaders tell WKYT a private contractor did some routine patch work on the bridge today.
They say they didn't tell drivers about the work before because they weren't expecting it to have a major impact, since it was going on between rush hours.
WKYT has learned the work has been finished, and traffic is moving much better along Southbound I-75.
