Man charged in Lexington bank robbery

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Lexington man now faces charges after a bank robbery on Richmond Road.

The hold-up happened around 9:30 Monday morning at the Central Bank on Richmond Road, next to Southland Christian search.

Police say after the robber made off with money, he ran to a nearby gas station where he caught a ride with a man who was driving a black Chevy Camaro.

Police say they tracked the car to an area along Lakeshore Drive where they arrested the driver, Deven Lovette, 23, on several outstanding warrants.

After interviewing him, police say Lovette told officers he dropped off the suspected robber on the 2000 block of Saint Michael Drive, before he drove back to Lakeshore.

That man, Robert Goins, 54, of Lexington is now charged with robbery and tampering with physical evidence.

At this time, Lovette is not charged in connection to the bank robbery.

As the chase for the robber turned from minutes to hours the community was on edge.

Henry Clay High School was on heightened alert and so were the residents who watched police and K9s patrolling their neighborhood.

"Obviously it's of concern for citizens. We made the appropriate notifications to schools they knew we had a suspect lose," said Lt. Raymond Roller.

Police say they spotted a gun in the getaway car and are getting a warrant to search the vehicle.
