Police: Robbery suspect grabs cash from register and runs

Updated: Wed 11:29 PM, Feb 27, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are now looking for a suspect who they say reached into the register the Family Dollar, grabbed a handful of cash and ran out the door.

It happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the store off Waller Avenue.

Police say the suspect snagged roughly $56 when the cashier opened the register drawer. Police say it would have been a misdemeanor theft, but a bystander tried to stop the suspect and that's when the suspect shoved him aside, upgrading the charge to robbery.

Investigators say they are reviewing the evidence and add it was all caught on the store's cameras.

Lexington police believe this is the same suspect that may have been involved in the Cricket store robbery earlier today. They aren't releasing his name, at this time, but say he was seen driving away from the Family Dollar in a gray or silver Jeep Liberty.

Investigators say no one was injured in the robbery attempt.
