Severe weather update

By  |

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Lexington area and west has been cancelled. The line of strong and severe storms continues to push across southern and southeastern Kentucky.

The storms knocked out power to thousands across Lexington and surrounding areas. Numerous trees have been reported down.

Flash flooding is the biggest threat across the south and southeast. A Flash Flood Warning is out for Clay, Leslie, Owsley and Perry Counties until 1am and for Wayne county until midnight.

The storms come at us in waves through the weekend and each wave will contain torrential rainfall.

This is a very steamy period with high humidity levels and toasty temps.

Daily temps will be determined by the timing of the rounds of storms. 90s will be common across the west. Central and eastern Kentucky’s temps are not nearly as clear cut. For one, there will be more clouds and storms. The other big player… a super soaked ground with green grass and lush vegetation. Highs should generally run in the mid to upper 80s.
