Lexington, Ky. (WKYT) - More than a dozen students had to stay home from school on Monday. Because of what investigators say they had on their phones.

School leaders at Rowan County High School suspended 16 teens, for allegedly having inappropriate pictures.

We've been tracking this story since Friday. Officials said they received the tip late last week, and initial reports that more than 100 students were involved were 'grossly exaggerated'.

"We were alerted to the fact that there was a child who had some knowledge of some pictures being out there of some minors and we've investigated that," Assistant Principal Ray Ginter said.

"We talked to several kids, at this point we have 16 that we found that had an inappropriate picture on their phone," he said.

Currently no charges have been filed. In addition to the out-of-school suspensions. The students involved are not allowed to attend any after school activities this week, including the homecoming dance. They also lost their phone privileges for the remainder of the school year.
