Rowan County drivers deal with snowy roads

Updated: Wed 12:07 AM, Oct 31, 2012

FARMERS, Ky. (WKYT) - Emergency Management officials in Rowan County tell us they think the rain falling throughout the day is actually improving conditions by getting the snow and slush off the road. Drivers who were out this morning say that snow and slush caused some major headaches.

Just a day before Halloween drivers on I-64 in Rowan county didn't expect the roads to get this scary.

"We had no idea, had plans on taking my girlfriend's little girl trick or treating but I think they already canceled it back home," said Barack Vaughan who was driving from to West Virginia after an elk hunt in Colorado. Vaughan thought he had seen the worst of it once he left the mountains.

"About three or four miles back we hit a mixture, got kinda slick," Vaughan said.

He wasn't the only driver surprised by the snow that hit the Farmers area of Rowan County. Kentucky State Police tell us they worked a number of accidents where drivers lost control and slid off the road. Only two involved injuries.

Morehead police say they haven't had any issues with the weather yet other than getting a light dusting of snow.
