Rumble strips being added to highways in northeastern Ky.

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (AP) - Road crews are installing more than 100 miles of rumble strips on highways across areas of northern and eastern Kentucky.

A statement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the rumble strips are being installed on the center lines or the roadway shoulders in 12 counties.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration says installing rumble strips helps prevent crashes due to fatigue and inattention by rousing the attention of drivers. When motorists travel over the strips, they can feel and hear their tires hitting ruts in the pavement.

Crews are working in the counties of Carter, Boyd, Greenup, Fleming, Bath, Mason, Bracken, Carroll, Harrison, Kenton, Pendleton and Robertson.
