Just weeks after a pregnant mother was murdered, her family prepares to honor her memory.
We told you last month about how Sarah Hart, 31, was killed while jogging in Russell County. The mother of three was pregnant at the time of her death. Well known in her community and a pharmacist in Mt. Vernon. Now an event in her memory will help students who want to go to pharmacy school.
Tomorrow following the Bluegrass 10,000 in Downtown Lexington, runners and spectators will be able to meet with Sarah's family at the Fifth Third Pavilion, and can donate to the Sarah Roberts Hart Foundation. The foundation was setup in Sarah's name to make scholarships available for students pursuing careers in the medical profession.
Family members are also expected to talk about another running event being planned in Russell County next month in Sarah's honor called "Run With All Your HART" a portion of those proceeds will be donated to the Foundation.
"We just felt like this was our chance to come together as a community and show the Hart family we have not forgotten them," said Eric Patrick Marr.
Marr, director of 'Run The Bluegrass" is helping organize the fundraiser.
"Her story just struck a chord with the running community here in Lexington and we didn't want to sit back and do nothing," he said.
He says 'Run The Bluegrass' which will transition into Lexington's Rock 'n' Roll Half-Marathon, scheduled for next March, will also be involved.
If people want to donate directly to the foundation, make checks payable to the Sarah Roberts Hart Foundation, P.O. Box 1036, Jamestown, KY 42629.
