SAFE Patrol Operators rescue drivers stuck in cold

By  |

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) SAFE Patrol Operators help drivers on every interstate and parkway. When it's freezing out, they want to get those drivers out of the cold.

Operators are equipped to change a tire, provide gasoline or oil, provide a "jump" for dead batteries, or other minor car repairs.

All of those services are provided for free.

Operators are on Kentucky roadways seven days a week, year-round.

If they see a driver parked on the shoulder, they will pull over to see what the driver needs.

Operator Gary Moss said if it's cold enough, he'll let people in his truck.

"They are welcome to get in here and warm up," said Moss.

The only time a driver would have to pay, is if a tow truck is needed.

Operators also help law enforcement by directing traffic at scenes, they remove debris from the roadway, and check for abandoned vehicles.
