CASEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Friday morning's ice and snow caused, and complicated, a number of crashes on Short Town Road.

"Probably ten vehicles from the bottom of the hill to the top that was off the road," said paramedic Charles Shepard.

Shepard said a 69-year-old man who was helping to pull other drivers out of the ditch fell and broke his leg.

Around the same time a salt truck that was clearing the area slid off the road and overturned. The crew inside wasn't hurt but the truck was still in the ditch hours later.

Because the hill was so icy the man with the broken leg had to be carried up the hill by a pickup truck before being taken to Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville.

The Casey County Sheriff's Department said that there were numerous crashes and road closings all across the county.
