SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - 21 children were taken to the hospital after an accident involving a school bus Monday morning in Magoffin County.
Magoffin County Fire Chief Paul Howard tells us the bus carrying elementary school students was rear ended while stopped to pick up a child. We're told the driver wasn't paying attention.
"Driver had stopped to pick up a few students, when a person driving rear ended the bus... never hit the brakes and shoved the bus 17 feet," says Magoffin County Superintendent Stanley Holbrook.
The bus was carrying 47 students to North Magoffin Elementary and Herald Whitaker Middle School.
Six children were taken to the hospital by ambulance to be checked out. Another 15 were taken to the hospital by their parents. Some were complaining of head and back pain. Most of them were sitting in the back of the bus. The bus driver is okay.
The driver of the vehicle was also taken to the hospital.
Another bus came to the scene to take the students who were not injured to school.
