School creates "Lockdown App"

A new cellphone app could help teachers and school administrators communicate during a lockdown.

It's called "My School Alert" and it was developed by a middle school nurse in Dothan, Alabama.

The app's creator says the app helps keep school employees in touch during lockdown situation, as well as giving them access to important information, such as how many kids are currently accounted for, and who needs help.

Developer Janice Horne says she hopes the technology will be a reassuring tool for school staff.

So far, only a few schools in the state of Alabama are using the app.
