School district considers new technology policy

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) - A southeastern Kentucky school district is considering a request to allow high school students to bring their own technology, such as smartphones or tablets, into the classroom to work on assignments.

The Middlesboro Daily News reports Pineville teacher Matthew Shafer presented the idea Monday at the Pineville Independent Board of Education meeting.

Shafer said he tested the proposal and it "worked really well" during a research project in his classroom.

Pineville Principal Bill Keyes and two students also spoke in favor of allowing personal devices to be used for classroom activities.

The board listened to the proposal, but did not take any action on it.
