Schools delay for severe weather

Updated: Wed 1:10 PM, Jan 30, 2013

DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Cars inched by, one by one, as parents waited to drop their children off at Woodlawn Elementary School.
We heard several stories of scarier than usual starts to the morning.

"When we woke up, we woke up to the tornado sirens going off," recalled Angela Richards.

"We live right beside a siren, we heard it and took shelter and waited it out," Leeann Shepherd said as she waited to drop her kids off for school.

As severe weather rolled through, parents with children in Boyle County, including Danville Independent Schools, knew they had more time than usual before shuttling their loved ones in for learning.

"I think it was a good decision. I don't think it would've been wise to get the busses out on the roads when it was windy and raining really hard," said Shepherd.

"I would've hated to have to get him out while the sirens were going off to get him to shool," Richards said. She added, "I'm glad we didn't have to get out in the worst of it this morning."

An official with Boyle County Schools said they are always paying attention to the weather and the developments and they'll be taking a close look as the temperatures plummet and snow becomes a threat.
