Scott County opens school doors

Updated: Tue 12:59 PM, Aug 07, 2012

Summertime is over for students in Scott County where school started back today.

School officials at Anne Mason Elementary tell us they are off to a smooth start in hopes of a great school year.

This day is the one teachers and school officials in Scott County consider the most exciting for both them and their students.

More than 700 elementary students, a number they expect to increase by the end of the week, lined up happy and ready to learn.

"The most important day of the entire school year is the first day of school. It's not graduation as everybody thinks. In my mind, I think the most important day is the first day. It's the only time teachers have that opportunity to make that first impression," said Patricia Putty, the superintendent of Scott County schools.

With the district's theme being "courageous," the superintendent says she is pushing teachers to step forward each day for every student.

It is the 10th anniversary at Anne Mason Elementary where they have the most students yet on this first day back.

The first day of school is getting close for many other districts in our area.

Woodford, Franklin, Pulaski, and Laurel County schools all go back to class tomorrow.

Clark and Bourbon Counties follow by starting Thursday.

And it is back to class on August 15 for Fayette, Madison, and Jessamine County schools.
