WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT)- Search crews combed the Red River Gorge Friday morning in search of a missing person. The search began in Wolfe County Thursday evening, after several hikers reported hearing yells for help, but didn't see anyone.

Crews searched the Bison Way Trail Head area until about 2 a.m. Friday, but did not find anyone. They did find a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, but no sign of the driver.

The search resumed around 10:00am Friday, but was called off around 1:30pm Friday when nobody was found. The vehicle spotted Thursday night was also gone when search crews returned to check it out Friday afternoon.

"Without any leads and without any evidence that he's actually in the area, there's nothing really left to do but wait, wait and see if anyone is reported missing and go from there," said Drew Stevens with Wolfe County Search and Rescue.

Search and rescue officials say they'll return to the area if someone is reported missing.
