LEXINGOTN, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police initiated a traffic stop when they got the tip that Antonio Howard was in this neighborhood, on Florence Avenue.
"When the units were on the way in we were told he had gotten in the passenger side of a Toyota, units tried to make a traffic stop on that Toyota and Mr. Howard jumped out of the passenger side and fled to the west," said Lt. Chris Van Brackel with Lexington Police.
The driver of that car was questioned by police at the scene and eventually placed in cuffs.
"For right now we're going to take him up to headquarters and talk to him some more with the detective to see if we can get some information on Mr. Howard," Van Brackel said.
Antonio Howard escaped from the Adair County Jail this week, and headed toward Lexington, where police believe he is attempting to make good on threats he made against a Lexington woman.
"That's something we're concerned about and we've taken some steps to protect that person. And as I said, we're trying everything we can to get him into custody as quickly and safely as possible," said Van Brackel.
Aerial Units and a K-9 Unit searched inside a perimeter for several hours, but had no luck locating Howard.
"With this heat, the K9 has searched as long as it can. We're taking some steps to trade things out, to pull back a little bit," said Van Brackel.
And while Lexington Police say they've scaled back the search for now, there will be an increased presence along Florence Avenue, for the time being.
