After hours of searching, Frankfort Police say they have arrested 49 year old Russell wheat and charged him with assault of a police officer.
Around 5:30 Friday night, police say Officer Byron Redmon pulled over a truck for suspected drinking and driving.
The whole incident is captured on surveillance cameras at a Marathon gas station on Shenkel Road.
As veteran police Officer Byron Redmon attempted to speak to the driver of the truck, the man behind the wheel puts the truck in reverse trying to get away.
Officer Redmon is step for step with the truck as it goes backwards. Then, the driver tries going forward dragging the officer with him. The truck crashes into in the side of the a parked car narrowly missing other customers at the gas station.
After the collision the truck speeds away narrowly missing another car as it leaves. Injured by collision, the officer staggers to his cruiser and calls for help.
Police find the truck abandoned in a neighborhood down the street and start the search. The search leads police to wooded area in the neighborhood then hours after searching police say they found the man they were looking for. Jail officials say 49-year-old Russell Wheat has been charged with assault of a police officer and will be held without bond.
Major Fred Deaton with the Frankfort Police says Officer Redmon has been treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.
