Rescuers gear up, buddy up, and go out into the dense forest of the Red River Gorge. After hours of searching for 67-year-old Gerald Keith Bush they come back tired and with no answers as to where he wandered off to.

"At this time we have no location, no information where he could be and who he's with," said Wolfe County Search and Rescue Coordinator Eddie Conner.

Bush suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia and was last seen around 6 p.m. on Monday in the Sky Bridge Road area of Wolfe County, and was spotted walking away from the spot where his family left him while hiking a trail.

"It was scary, which I thought maybe he was just right there close and so we walked real quick, but as soon as we came up we saw the park ranger. Another guy (saw) him just right down the road, we all took off in three different ways and still couldn't find him," said Wayne Bush, Gerald's son, adding, "(I'm) anxious to find him and get him home."

It's been more than a day and there's still no sign of Bush, and that's only adding to the worry.

"There's a lot of woods out here, a lot of high cliffs, there are people out here and you don't know if somebody picked him up, (but) I'd like to find answers to it," described Bush.

Rescuers say they're working from the last place that Bush was last seen, and they add that the terrain is unforgiving. Now, night falls and that brings a new challenge, and with that a new plan is put into place.

"We're going to get a hold of the National Guard helicopter with an infrared lens camera," said Conner.

Conner went on to elaborate that the camera will be able to identify any person that appears to be alone. From there a team of rescuers will be sent in to investigate the area.

"We're covering ground and we're continuing to cover ground, but when we get that helicopter in tonight he can cover a lot more ground than we can," stated Conner.

While Bush may be lost, the hopes of finding him are not.

"That's what we do, we find people and we're going to be here until we find him."

Conner says some rescuers will be sent home to rest, while several other teams will continue to work into the early morning. All search efforts will resume at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Bush is described as standing 5'6", weighing 160 lbs. with short, salt and pepper hair and a beard.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark blue shirt and a dark blue hat.
