Second child dies after fire

A second child has died after a fire destroyed a home in Cynthiana Wednesday afternoon.

Family members say 4-year-old Rachel Chesnut passed away at UK Hospital Thursday afternoon. Her sister, 5-year-old Jacquelyn Chesnut died after the fire broke out Wednesday afternoon. The girls' father, Terry Chesnut, remains in critical condition at UK.

Terry Chesnut's older daughter, who is at UK Hospital with him, says once he realized his two daughters were still trapped inside, he ran back into the burning home to save them. She says the smoke and flames were just too much for him, and caused his life threatening injuries.

Cynthiana fire crews were back on scene, at the family's home on Oddville Avenue, Thursday afternoon to cool several hot spots at the home. At this time they have not determined a cause for the fire.
