Second superintendent candidate answers questions

Current Daviess County Superintendent, Tom Shelton spent Wednesday in Lexington meeting with school officials, students, parents and other community members.

Shelton has been superintendent of Daviess County schools for seven years. He took the place of Fayette County's last superintendent Stu Silberman. Shelton calls Silberman a good friend and mentor. He says he learned a lot from Silberman and shares similar goals with him, but is quick to point out their differences. Shelton is the only finalist with a business background.

"Stu and I happen to have been superintendent in the same district, but Stu and I are two different people. I've learned a lot from him and continue to, and will continue to because he'll always be my mentor and my friend, but I am not Stu Silberman," said Shelton.

If Superintendent Shelton were to get the job in Fayette County, he would be leaving a district of 12,000 students, for one handling more than 37,000.
