Senate committee votes on immigration this week

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Senate committee gets ready to vote this week on far-reaching immigration reform.

The bill, released last month by four Republicans and four Democrats, calls for boosting border security and offering eventual citizenship to some 11 million people living illegally in the U.S.

The last time Congress tried to pass such legislation - in 2007 - a fierce public backlash shut it down.
