UPDATE: Four firefighters injured while battling fire on MSU campus

MOREHEAD, Ky (WKYT) - The Morehead Fire Department says an old dorm on campus at Morehead State University is on fire.

Officials says it broke out just after 7 a.m. at Downing Hall. According to a press release from Morehead State University officials, the fire started on the west side of the building, on the top floor.

University officials say four firefighters were injured while battling the fire. They were all taken to St. Claire Regional Medical center for treatment. There is no word on their current condition

Fire crews say the dorm was fully involved. There are four fire crews on along with The Morehead Fire Department.

Downing Hall, located near the baseball and softball fields, was built in 1967 as a residence hall for student-athletes but was currently being used for various offices and storage. The dorm was named for George Dewey Downing, the university's first coach and athletic director.

No MSU Students are currently on campus, thanks to the holiday break. The university says they are in the process of assessing the damage and will offer more details as their investigation continues.

WKYT has a crew on scene now and will continue to update this story as it develops.
