Coroner releases name of Lima Drive homicide victim

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot several times while inside his car. The shooting took place at a strip mall off Lima Drive.

Police received a shots fired call after 2 p.m. Sunday. The caller thought 10-12 shots were fired.

Officers didn't see anything when they arrived, but were flagged down and a someone said a victim was in a car in the parking lot.

"That victim was taken to UK hospital. We have a mobile crime lab on scene. We have members of our forensic services unit as well as robbery homicide here," said Lt. Eddie Hart, with Lexington Police.

The Coroner Gary Ginn's office has identified the victim as 23 year old Vincenzo Happy, of Fayette County.

There's no description on the suspect or suspects at this point but all the businesses have surveillance footage that police are reviewing.

"We did recover several shell casings on the ground behind us that indicated approximately 10-12 shots were fired the vehicle we took the victim out of has sustained heavy damage with fire projectiles fired into it," said Hart.

People that live nearby are shaken up by the shooting.

"It's just very hard to swallow that something like that can happen just right in the back of my house," said Andrea Fender. "The violence just has to stop."
