Storms bring flash flooding to some areas of Kentucky

KNOTT AND PERRY COUNTIES, Ky. (WKYT) As storms swept through the Bluegrass, several areas of Eastern Kentucky were hit hard by the severe weather.

Some people in Knott County dealt with flash flooding.

The Ball Creek fire department had to rescue some families from their homes after they became trapped by high water.

We're told no injuries have been reported.

Parts of Hindman, including the Highway 550 area, also had problems with high water.

Neighboring Perry County also had to deal with flash flooding Wednesday night.

The owner of the "Broken Spoke Lounge," Don Haley, in downtown Hazard says water got into his business and left a muddy mess behind.

He is now assessing the damage.

"We just had a torrential downpour and it just wouldn't quit and it just kept coming and in the back we only have one drain and it just started coming in the back door and we couldn't do anything with it and got four inches of water in the bar," he said.

He also said he had never seen as much water in the business, as he did Wednesday night.
