Severely-burned boy welcomed home after months in hospital

COLUMBIA, Ky. (WKYT) - A 9-year-old boy injured in a fire is back home after months of recovery at a Cincinnati hospital.

Four months and 20 surgeries later, Dawson Fisher said thanks to the community that's welcomed him home with open arms. Fisher was badly burned in a freak garage accident in December of 2013. He suffered serious burns to more than 90-percent of his body.

Upon returning to Kentucky, Dawson made a stop at a local hospital Monday night where family, friends, nurses and doctors came to welcome him.

Paramedic David Taylor was one of the first on scene the night of the fire.

He says the whole town is happy to have Dawson home.

"He's been on my heart ever since this happened and honestly we didn't know if he'd be back in Columbia or not," said Taylor. "But, just to see him back, it's a blessing."

For the time, Dawson is being home-schooled. His mom hopes he'll be back at school next fall.
