Shelby County outlet mall set to open July 31

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - The Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, located off Interstate 64 and KY 1848 in Shelby County, will open as scheduled on July 31.

As many as 40,000 people are expected to make the trip to Simpsonville for the grand opening day.

A few stores won't be ready by then, including Gucci, Kate Spade and Tummi.

"The will be the largest collection of sporting stores and the largest collection of children's clothes in the state," said Horizon Group Properties marketing representative Gina Slechta.

The 374,300 square foot center will have more than 90 stores including Ann Taylor, Coach, Banana Republic and Nike. The largest store is the Saks Fifth Avenue outlet at 22,000 square feet.

The owners want to make this a tourist destination, offering shuttles to pick up customers from nearby colleges and hotels in Louisville and Lexington.

"Safety is always of utmost concern. We've got security people here to help to make sure that people are safe. Our housekeeping crews are making sure that spills are kept up and that the shopping center has no types of hazards," said Slechta.

The outlet center will employ more than 1,000 people and up to 2,000 during the holidays. Stores are still hiring. You can apply at the outlet's Facebook page or at Kentucky Career services, a division of the state employment office.
