LEBANON, Ky. (WKYT) - People who knew him say he was a great person who would help anyone.
On Friday, The Marion County Sheriff and the family of Deputy Anthony Rakes talked about the fallen deputy and how he'll be remembered.
"I'm honored to have worked with him," said Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Clements. "Very honored to have worked with that young man."
Rakes had been a deputy for six years. He was shot and killed along U.S. 68 in Marion County in the early morning hours on Wednesday.
His family says he paid the ultimate sacrifice while doing what he loved.
"I'm proud of him and if our parents were here, they'd be proud of him, too," said Rakes' sister Anita Elder.
"I'm just going to miss him coming around, spending time with my kids," said Rakes' sister Regina Ewing. "He was a real good uncle and brother."
All three ended by thanking everyone for the outpouring of love and support.
"Words just can't express all that they have done. I just want to thank everyone," said Elder.
